Language learning comes naturally to babies from birth, they are born with the ability to learn it. It starts from the time they are born. Initially they start communicating by making some sounds, coohs and cries to acknowlegde that they need you. Whatever they hear, they try to imitate and its fun for them. The more you talk , the more they learn, the more their vocabulary increases and the more they try to speak meaningful words to you.
Many such kids take a lot of time to start speaking, as they get confused hearing different words in different languages at a time. For example, his parents may be communicating in different language, his peers or friends may be speaking some other language, his nanny speaks some other language and his uncle, aunt and relatives some other. If your kid is taking a lot of time than his other friends of the same age to start speaking, then this might be one of the reason.
To make such kids understand and grasp a language faster, so that he starts speaking a language early, make sure you keep the below mentioned tips in mind to help your child learn and speak a language faster.
1. Make sure you introduce him to a language first, may be the mother tongue or the langauge which most members of your family speak.
2. Always talk to him about everything from their daily routines to the food we eat. Whenever you talk, make sure you are near enough to him so that he can see your facial expressions and the lip syncronisation, how you are speaking. This makes easy for a kid to know how a word is spoken by lip syncronisation and tongue movements.
3. Introduce him to everything he likes and sees in the surrounding around him and explain him about it. For example if you are showing him a tree, tell him its name, colour of leaf, its flowers or fruits and how it is useful to us.
4. Speak to him in clear and loud voice and always point to the object you are talking about or take the object in your hand and then talk about it.
5. Give firm instruction to all the members of the family to speak only in one language which you have introduced to your child from his birth time.
6. Let your child have a quality play time with his friends who speak the same language, as kids grasp the things fast when they are in company of other kids. They find it interesting when their other peers speak, so they also try to imitate like their friends as it's a fun for them and they enjoy doing it.
7. Make your toddler listen and dance to the lyrics of music in the language which he speaks, as music is enjoyed by everyone and is grasped faster. You will be amazed to see your kid try to sing and dance to the music he loves. This also helps in learning and speaking a langauge faster in kids.
8. Introduce him to picture book stories and narrate the story to him in loud and clear voice by pointing at the pictures to him so that he understands the story with pictures easily which inturn help him in learning and understanding a language faster.
9. Show your toddler his favourite cartoon show or some kids programme in the language he understands, he will enjoy watching it and together it will help him in understanding and learning the language easily and faster.
10. The most important point of all is 'talk, talk and talk", keep talking to him more and more, the more you talk to him, the more he will be encouraged to talk back to you.
