Every Parent should know this before posting their kids pic on social media...!!!

All parents love sharing of pictures of their kid with their family and friends on social media. It's the most popular use of social media nowadays, whatever your little bundle of joy utters or does, you just click it or make a video or portrait or document of each of the milestone he crosses and share it with your friends and extended family members and why not do so, every parent is proud of their li'l ones achievements.

Social media has become the easiest mean by which you can share your joy with just one click and in a moment it gets shared with all the people you know i.e, your near, dear and also far friends and relatives. In one way social meadia networking is boon especially for parents who are living geographically far away from their family. It becomes the great tool by which baby's grandparents, uncle and aunt can see their little one growing before their eyes.

Darkest side of social media :

But what about the danger and risk it poses to your baby or kid, if you don't take nessasary precaution while using these social media. It becomes the most scary place to share anything, if you are not alert about it. It becomes the place where your data is available and accessible to everyone even the strangers too and can be misused.

There are some folks or you can say perverts or paedophile who are looking for such data on the internet. They can steal your baby's or kids identity or can kidnap your baby or kid by figuring out where they live , their school, their play area or which places they visit frequently. They can also misuse these baby pics on some paedophile sites for money. These information can be easily available to an unknown person if no security precaution is taken.

For example when your toddler first goes to school in his new school uniform, "he/she really looks really cute", a proud parent click a pic and post it on social media and tag it by saying "first day of school....looking so cute in uniform" with the geographical location of school from google maps tab and post it. Now a stranger can get all the information he wants from this post. He can easily locate the school or kids whereabouts and can easily steal a kid.

Parent's checklist of DO's and Dont's while sharing their kids pic in social media.

Always be safe rather than sorry, boycotting social media or going offline is not only the solution as it stops you from being in touch with your friends and family members and sharing your and your kids beautiful moments with them. You can go ahead and share your kids picture with all the security settings internet provide and let your kid be the superstar of the social media.

1. Use Privacy settings :

Always use privacy settings in social media to keep your pics safe, do not use the default settings set by the networking site. Have a check of your privacy settings and set them according to your wish. Platforms like facebook provides privacy setting for each post you share from the dropdown menu in front of the post, you can choose whom you want to share your post.

2. Limit your Audience:

You can limit or choose the audience with whom you want to share your baby pics like family in the settings, so that your post is visible only to your family members or whoever you want to choose your audience for your kids photos.

3. Turn off your phone's GPS :

You can keep your phone's GPS OFF so that your location is not shared in social media while posting live from somewhere. You can turn it ON when required.

4. Do Not accept any stranger's friend request :

If some stranger sends you a friend request, dont accept it because you do not know what he is looking for. Also some people make fake accounts to get all the information they want and then misuse it.

5. Do Not share all the details  :

No need to share all the details of your kid, especially your exact location. If the picture is in well known public place, post the pic after you have left from the place.

6. you can use nickname of your kid in social media:

You can use your childs nickname in social media to hide his real identity in pics. Do not share his/her full name.

7. Instruct other members of family or friends not to share details of your kid :

You can give instructions to your family members and friends who love to share your kids picture in their profile to not to share your kids details while sharing pictures in social media to keep your child safe.

8. Do Not share pictures of your kid in shower or swimming attire or in a state of semidress :

It's better not to share your kids pics in shower or in swimming attire, it may look innocent for you, but can  set off the imaginations of perverts. It's better to scan all the pics before sharing it, so that you can make sure your kid is not exposed in an inappropriate manner.

9. Do Not share the frequency of your visits to a public place:

If you are visiting any public place frequently on some particular days of a week like temples or a particular market, do not share it in social media as it becomes easy for the stalker to trace your whereabouts.

10. Do Not tag too many people on your kids Picture :

Some people will tag dozens of people in their kids pic even if they are not in the picture. Strictly don't do that as it exposes your kids picture to thousands of people you may not be knowing through all the tagged people's profile and their list of friends, also you don't know other's peoples privacy settings etc. So it's always better to avoid this strictly.

By taking all these precautions, you can enjoy the benefits of social media and can also keep your child safe while sharing his/her pic with your friends and family.
